What can you do as a Administrator/ Teacher?
First and foremost, if the student is one of few or the only one is the school with a turban talk to his/her parents in order to understand more about the child, this should be happening with all students. All you as a educator need to do is ask a few more questions. If the student is old enough as them to share with you( the teacher) and their classmates.
If you’re still unclear read up on the religion a little more, the school library will likely have books on Sikhism. I was able to locate seven in my last practicum school, and it is located in the South end of the city and the majority of the Sikh population in located in the Northeast Calgary, so they probably have even more sources.
Talk about bullying early on in the year. My nephews teacher stated the incidents with my nephew occurred during recess so it was hard to pick out. However, when a student comes into your class with his/her hair untied ask what happened (this will rarely happen on a regular day because the hair is tied in such a way that it is really hard to come undone while playing).
The majority of the books listed in the Resources section ahead have notes for teachers and parents, so make use of them.
